OUR HISTORY
A Giving Circle Inspired by Women Encouraging Success-WES

WES, Women Encouraging Success in McIntosh County began as a coalition of women committed to understanding the enormous diverse needs in McIntosh County, then forming strategies to help address those needs.
Donna LaFreniere, shortly after moving to the county, recognized the communication gaps among those wishing to make a difference in McIntosh County, due in large part to the county’s unique geography. She saw the need for better communication among women, many of whom were also new to the county yet offered talent, experience and energy.
Donna applied her business background and sincere desire to form a meaningful endeavor and took the leadership role for forming WES in 2023. She led the group by organizing luncheon meetings and ensuring ongoing written communication as WES grew into a communication outlet as WES women came together to identify unmet needs and solutions. It was amazingly successful, as food shortfalls were identified for food banks and children’s programs were supported, including HeadStart, After School programs, Backpack Buddies, School Nurse programs, Toys for Tots, BEDS program, and Ferst Readers. Additionally, HART, McIntosh County High School scholarship programs and other programs throughout the county were identified, and WES women stepped up to provide help as needed. Much of this support came with women giving of themselves by volunteering, donating items and providing personal financial support for fundraisers and specific projects.

The Giving Circle
At the end of 2024, the energy expanded to another concept:

To form a “Giving Circle” for organized financial donations which could provide yet another path of solution for bigger challenges facing our county. We realized many women in our county have a desire to contribute financially yet may not be able to volunteer or actively participate in regular meetings.

With the support and guidance of the Communities of Coastal Georgia Foundation, 100 Women of McIntosh County was formed and provides an opportunity for not only WES members, but other women in our county to collectively donate substantial funds to McIntosh County organizations. Based on existing Giving Circles in other cities and communities, the group focuses on identifying qualified nonprofits and then giving them an opportunity to present before the 100 Women members for the award of a 100 Women of McIntosh County grant. The grants are awarded quarterly, and members nominate and then vote on the grant award for that period.

100 Women of McIntosh County expands the culture of WES to provide a significant financial base to start up entities or expansions for others providing help in McIntosh County. The awards may be given to 501(c)3 organizations and may include specific programs of religious organizations or schools and other governmental entities.
